5 RAR Presentation of Colours parade (1.26 mins)
The Australian Army’s 5th Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment (5 RAR), has been presented with new Colours by the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove, AK, MC (Retd), at Darwin Cenotaph on 1 June 2019. The Colours, which were last presented in June 2008, are the symbol of the military unit and bear the battle honours granted in recognition of gallant deeds performed by its members. 5 RAR Association members were invited to participate in the parade and assisted with the uncasing of the new Colours alongside senior members of the battalion. The parade will also commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War’s Battle of Binh Ba (6-7 June 1969), a significant battle in the Battalion’s history and a listed battle honour of The Royal Australian Regiment. The old Colours will be laid up in St Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Cathedral, Darwin.
