Army takes to South Australia with Exercise Thura Yura 2019 (1.42 mins)

Soldiers and officers of the 7th Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment have been joined by about 30 indigenous youths for three weeks of Adventure Training in South Australia. Kayaking, abseiling and a navigation activity with traditional owners to learn about customs and stories of the land, lie in store for those participating in the annual regional community engagement exercise named Exercise Thura Yura. Exercise Thura Yura was first piloted in Port Lincoln in November last year with great success and for 2019 has grown to include the communities of Ceduna and Whyalla. The commencement of the exercise will be marked with a traditional Welcome to Country ceremony followed by lessons in Aboriginal customs and traditions delivered by community elders. The exercise will see a different company of 7RAR soldiers partnered with a local indigenous youth group each week between 4 to 23 November.
