Division 8: Members of the Reserves – duty travel

9.2.40 Purpose

This Division sets out the benefits for a member of the Reserves travelling on duty at Commonwealth expense.

9.2.41 Benefits under this Division

  1. A member on Reserve service who must travel for duty purposes has the basic benefits set out in Part 1 of this Chapter.

  2. Note: In the total workforce model, a member of the Reserves on Reserve service may be described as a member in Service category 3, 4 or 5. A member on Service option C is not a member of the Reserves on Reserve service.

  3. The CDF may approve a member's travel by means that are not the most economical. The CDF must consider the interests of the ADF and the member.

Persons who can make the decision under subsection on behalf of the CDF:
Supervisor not below WO2(E)/APS 4, in the member's direct chain of command or supervision.
Director/Commanding Officer not below MAJ(E)/APS 6 in the member's direct chain of command or supervision.

9.2.42 Limit on Commonwealth expense

  1. A member of the Reserves who is eligible for travel at Commonwealth expense may choose to pay for the travel themselves. In this case, they may be reimbursed the cost of any part of the journey they take by public transport. They can be reimbursed an amount up to what the Commonwealth would have paid for the journey.

  2. The member is not eligible for the reimbursement of their costs if they are eligible for vehicle allowance or any other form of allowance or reimbursement.
