This Part points to help for members under the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Scheme (MRCS) and the ADF rehabilitation program. It also points to other sources of information.
The MRCS provides comprehensive rehabilitation, treatment and compensation for members and their dependants in the event of illness, injury or death related to ADF service on or after 1 July 2004.
The MRCS replaces cover provided by the former scheme for these cases. The former scheme is based on the Veteran's Entitlements Act 1986, the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988, and Part 2 of this Chapter.
Claims for illness, injury or death related to ADF service before 1 July 2004 are still subject to the former scheme.
For detailed guidance on compensation arrangements for both the MRCS and the former scheme, see the following websites.
The Department of Veterans' Affairs administers the MRCS and the former scheme. They provide additional information about military compensation and support for making claims. They have regional offices in all States and Territories. Information on the current and former schemes is provided in the Department of Veterans' Affairs' Fact Sheets MRC01 Overview of the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Scheme and MCSO6, Benefits under the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 and the Defence Act 1903 at http://www.dva.gov.au/factsheets.
The MRCS has a national enquiry number, 1300 550 461.
The Work Health and Safety Branch website also has relevant information.
The ADF rehabilitation program provides health care to ADF members to help members return to a state of readiness as soon as possible after injury or illness.
For detailed information on the ADF rehabilitation program see the Directorate of ADF Rehabilitation and Compensation.
