With the internet and social media flooded with a range of COVID-19 information and advice, it’s important to make sure the information you’re seeking comes from an official source. To help you, we’ve put together a list of official websites where families can get up-to-date information about a range of COVID issues like travel restrictions and border closures, non-essential travel and fines, testing locations, school arrangements, jobs and business information.

Community groups & centres
Community group facilities are currently closed due to the COVID-19 restrictions, but you can still get involved with their online activities and virtual catch-ups. If you want to get in touch with a community group in your area, follow them on Facebook to keep up-to-date.
Australian Air Force Cadets provides an opportunity for young people aged between 13 and 18 to meet new friends, build confidence and leadership skills, while experiencing a variety of activities both in the air and on the ground. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, AAFC 101 Squadron is not parading.

Coral Sea is operated by One Tree Community Services and provides priority of access for ADF families. The centre provides long day care, nursery, toddler, kindergarten and preschool programs.

The Defence Special Needs Support Group is a non-profit benevolent volunteer organisation established to assist ADF families with a family member with special needs.

Geckos is a tri-service community centre providing a range of services and activities for all defence families. Geckos provides a mix of formal and informal activities such as playgroups, parent groups, boot camp and sewing group.

Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation supports Defence children living in families affected by mental illness, including PTSD. The foundation aims to deliver camps and school holiday activity days to provide kids with respite from their home life, a safe environment to share their experiences, plus mental health education and counselling focussed on coping skills and building resilience.
Solid Rock is a Christian ministry for Defence wives and partners. They meet each Monday at 9.30am during school terms in the conference room next to the chapel on Lavarack Barracks. Children are welcome – there is a play area with toys.

The Australian Military Wives Choir (AMWChoir) is a choir for female voices with a connection to a currently serving member of the ADF or foreign defence members stationed in Australia. We welcome wives, partners, girlfriends, mothers, daughters, sisters, and female ADF members, and would love to have you join our Townsville branch.
No experience required, no audition necessary, just come along to enjoy a shared love of singing.
Where: rehearsals are held at Geckos Family Centre, Lavarack Barracks, Townsville.
When: 1st, 3rd and 5th Thursday of each month, during school terms from 7.00pm to 8.30pm

Open Arms continues to provide 24/7 counselling and support services to Australia's military community during COVID-19. If you have served one day of continuous full-time service in the ADF you can call them for support. They also support families, reservists and some peacekeepers. Call Open Arms – Veterans and Families Counselling on 1800 011 046 for free, confidential counselling and group programs to support mental health and wellbeing.
