The three year Joint Military Education and Training Program at the Australian Defence Force Academy is designed to provide midshipmen and officer cadets with the fundamental knowledge, skills and attitudes required by junior Officers in the Australian Defence Force.
To graduate from the Academy, midshipmen and officer cadets (or trainee officers) must complete all four components of the training program.
Physical Fitness Standards
High standards of physical fitness are necessary for Australian Defence Force members to effectively carry out the operational tasks to which they are assigned. All Australian Defence Force personnel must be capable of achieving and maintaining a prescribed level of physical fitness as a function of operational preparedness.
Applicants for the Australian Defence Force Academy are required to pass the Navy, Army or Air Force physical fitness assessment before starting at the Academy. More information on physical fitness requirements can be found at the Defence Jobs Candidates Resource Centre.
Once you are at the Australian Defence Force Academy, you will start a physical training program. Instructors will test your fitness and help you build on it during the first six weeks and up to your first fitness test in September. You will then have a fitness test every six months at the Academy, and every year after graduation.
