The Australian Army Skill at Arms Meeting (AASAM) domestic competition for 2019 has concluded for 2019 with the Champion Shots of the Army, Navy and RAAF being awarded over the weekend. AASAM is a combat-focused skill-at-arms competition, encompassing current in-service small-arms systems, competed at individual and unit levels. The purpose of AASAM is to improve Australian Defence Force operational capability through a rigorous, challenging and combat-focused skill-at-arms competition. Since 1984, AASAM has been Australia's premier military shooting tournament, with a growing reputation worldwide. It is now one of the world’s biggest military shooting competitions. AASAM identifies the best combat marksmen for selection in the Australian Army Combat Shooting Team (AACST) to represent the Australian Army at both the international AASAM competition and overseas international skill-at-arms competitions. While it is an Australian Army event, members of the Royal Australian Navy and Royal Australian Air Force may also compete in both team and individual events.
