Australian Army soldiers from 2nd/14th Light Horse Regiment (Queensland Mounted Infantry) demonstrated the PD-100 Black Hornet Nano unmanned aircraft vehicle during a training exercise at Shoalwater Bay Training Area, Queensland, on 4 May 2018. The Australian Army Headquarters (AHQ) Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Sub Program, in conjunction with the 7th Combat Brigade (7 BDE) are supporting the initial issue of the Black Hornet Nano UAS across an Australian Army Brigade. The Australian Army is the biggest user of Nano UAS in the world and is also the first Army to purchase and issue this technology to conventional forces down to Platoon level, the upcoming completion of the Nano UAS Black Hornet rollout to 7 BDE is a noteworthy achievement and key capability milestone. The Nano UAS Black Hornet roll out to 7 BDE aligns with the Chief of Army’s modernisation efforts, and provides a highly visual opportunity to showcase UAS and 7 BDE personnel, equipment and UAS training methodology to key stakeholders.
